About Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that causes disruptions in an individual’s emotional responsiveness, social interactions and thought processes. Acute episodes of psychosis are a hallmark feature of Schizophrenia. During these episodes, individuals may experience a break from reality, leading to impaired thoughts, hallucinations and delusions.1

The exact cause of Schizophrenia is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, neurological, and environmental factors. Professional help and ongoing medical treatment can significantly improve both the outcomes and quality of life for those diagnosed with Schizophrenia.2

The EMPOWER-3 Study is looking at how well a new medicine works, if it's safe, and if people can tolerate it. The medicine could potentially help treat Schizophrenia.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a research study?

A research study (also called a clinical trial) is a medical study that helps to answer important questions about an investigational drug – these may include how well an investigational study drug works for a certain condition. All medications must be tested in clinical research studies before they can be approved and prescribed to patients.

A research study is the process by which new and innovative medications, interventions and treatments are approved and brought to the market, so people can live happier and healthier lives. Even over-the-counter medications, such as NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), which you may have used to counteract a headache, have gone through the clinical research study process before they were available at your local pharmacy.

The EMPOWER-3 Study will enroll about 850 people across approximately 120 centers worldwide.

The study will include 13 visits to a study center in your location and one phone call over approximately 13-14 months.

Compensation for participation is available. You are able to discuss this with the study team when they contact you.

There is no cost to participate in the EMPOWER-3 Study. If you qualify, all study-related care will be provided at no cost to you, including the investigational drug.

The study team will be able to explain more about what the EMPOWER-3 Study will involve , and it is up to you to decide if you want to participate. Participation in this study is voluntary. Whether or not you decide to participate in this study will not affect your current or future relationships with your doctors. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw at any time without affecting those relationships.

We match you to a study center within a close travel distance from your home. If we are not currently running the study in your area, with your permission, we will keep you in our database and reach out once a study location becomes available. If, at any time, you decided you no longer want your information stored, you can opt out and we will delete your details.
